Bromley Women's Aid - Working to edn domestic abuse
BWA Survivors Guide

Refuge accommodation

BWA runs six refuges. Three are for families, whilst three have a specialist focus; these at present are mental health, single women and long stay respectively. Service users have access to advice and support alongside their residential placement; to empower women to take control of their lives and make positive choices. On entry to a refuge, each woman and her family is allocated a Refuge Officer who will work out an individual Support Plan. This is designed to ensure that every service user has access to the support, advice and protection that they need.

When you move into a BWA family refuge

• You will have your own bedroom for yourself or with your children
• Communal areas are shared
• Laundry facilities are provided
• Kitchens – own cupboard/fridge space
• Gardens with play equipment and free access.

BWA Mental Health Project/Longer Stay Refuge

• You will have a self-contained one-bed flat
• Non-communal living.

Refuge Officers have right of access to rooms and flats, to carry out Health & Safety and Fire checks. Twenty four hours notice will be given, unless there is an emergency when instant access is required.
